19 - 21 April - Nest activity but no eggs yet
21/04/07
The past few days have seen sporadic activity on the nest. Thursday (19th) saw one of the birds looking quite settled on the nest. On Friday (20th) the nest was again occupied by one of the birds at regular intervals, until about 3pm, when the nest was left unoccupied. We have noted one of the birds has a small piece of yellow wing tag remaining on its wing. One of the pair using the nest last year was tagged, so it's a good bet this is the same pair, especially as they were successful in 2006 raising a chick in this nest. This particular bird visited the nest to rearrange the twigs, then quickly flew off again after a few minutes.
On Saturday, there was no sign of either bird for quite a few hours. However, just after 2pm, one of the birds flew in (the first sighting of the day) to the great relief of those watching, and promptly settled down, followed, soon after, by the second bird (the partially tagged bird) bringing in a piece of food. The settled bird promptly took the food, and flew off the nest with it. The remaining bird then settled down for more than 30 minutes, before finally leaving the nest empty at 3.20pm. There still appears to be no sign of any eggs.
