1 June - The nest has failed

With the camera up and running, we were hoping to find at least one chick in the nest.

Unfortunately, the two eggs failed to hatch, and the adults have now left the nest.

It is late in the season now, and extremely unlikely that the birds will try to lay again.

Although nests do sometimes fail, the reasons are not always known. However, the prolonged wet conditions during May, especially at the end of last month - close to the end of the incubation period - may have been a factor in the failure.
