2009 The Chilterns Breeding Season

There was an average of 1.6 chicks per nest per successful pair in 2009. There were a total of 126 chicks in 77 nests checked. The population continues to increase, although 'accurate' estimates are not possible with so many birds spread over a wide area.

The kites continue to disperse and nest in nearby counties including Sussex, Wiltshire, and Hampshire.

Almost 300 chicks have been collected from Chilterns nests during the past dozen years, for other release areas.
